Greece | Multi-City | 12 Days

A Greece itinerary designed to balance a brief cultural stop in Athens with a more considered island experience, prioritizing hotel selection and island fit.

The goal for this trip was to combine a high-impact introduction to Athens with a first-time Greek islands experience that felt both relaxing and immersive. With limited time relative to the number of stops, the itinerary focused on making clear decisions around where to spend and where to streamline.

The trip opened with a short but intentional stop in Athens, allowing for a focused visit to the Acropolis without overextending time in the city. A stay at the Gatsby Athens provided a centrally located base with a boutique feel, striking the right balance for what was effectively a quick layover. The experience was anchored by a tasting menu with wine pairings, creating a strong and memorable start to the trip without requiring a longer stay.

From there, the itinerary shifted to the islands, where selection was a central part of the planning process. With each island offering a distinct pace and personality, time was spent evaluating a range of options, including Paros, Milos, and Sifnos, alongside more classic choices. Santorini and Crete were ultimately selected for their contrast, accessibility, and ability to deliver a well-rounded first experience, while still leaving room to explore more considered islands on a future trip.

In Santorini, the focus was placed heavily on hotel and room selection. With an abundance of luxury properties, the goal was to identify a stay that would deliver privacy, strong design, and unobstructed views of the coveted Oia sunset from their balcony. Careful planning was given not only to the hotel itself, but to the exact room category and positioning, ensuring a private pool with a direct sunset-facing view. Time here was intentionally slower, centered around the property, with select cultural experiences, such as a day sailing around the island, layered in.

The final portion of the trip took place in Crete, where the focus shifted to a mix of relaxation and light exploration. Given the island’s size and range of options, the approach prioritized choosing the right base and narrowing in on a small number of high-impact experiences. This included scenic sightseeing and a more traditional Greek lunch, allowing for a sense of place without overloading the schedule.
